One Piece Card Game news, translated for rookies

Instead of rewriting announcements, I write down what they mean in practice if you're still learning the game.

Tomorrow's legality change overrides September's Mihawk recommendation

Bandai's 24 September notice bans OP14-020 Dracule Mihawk, including alternate arts, from 12 October 2026. It plans a replacement leader, P-163 Dracule Mihawk, for distribution at future events.

Why I care as a beginnerReaders following the last edition's testing priority need a new legal deck plan. What to do: Audit the leader code and current restrictions before entering. Do not treat P-163 as already obtainable or assume an old list transfers unchanged.

Heroines Battle gives players and collectors a date to plan around

The programme runs 6 November–6 December, with player applications from 23 October. Only listed leader codes are eligible; both participation and winner prizes are identified as EB03-006 Nami.

Why I care as a beginnerIt offers a purposeful local event and a play-based promo route. What to do: Choose a permitted leader and check TCG+ on application day. Ask the store about fees, capacity and acceptance. No seat inventory or universal registration-opening time was verified.

EB-05: date uncertainty has closed; preorder quality still varies

Bandai's English index gives 30 October. Asmodee UK corroborates the date and lists 24 units at £4.99, yielding a £119.76 display benchmark.

Why I care as a beginnerUK buyers have a concrete reference for comparing asks. The Japanese release is 31 October; it must not replace the English date. What to do: A £131.32 English-labelled preorder ask is about 9.7% above that benchmark. Its page also says ready to dispatch despite preorder text; confirm fulfilment and allocation terms before paying. No verified market shortage supports urgency.

London broadens the test gauntlet, with a clear evidence limit

Bandai confirms INTERISTASBARAZZINO as champion and Xixo as runner-up. Secondary deck records identify Mihawk and purple Enel respectively; both semifinalists played blue Rocks D. Xebec.

Why I care as a beginnerXebec warrants testing alongside Enel and Robin. Treat London as evidence from the environment before the rule change. What to do: Test surviving archetypes without declaring a new best deck. There is no complete field-share or conversion denominator.

Set Sail still makes sense for two-player use at retail

Goblin Gaming's retrieved SD-01 page displayed £24.99 and eight in stock.

Why I care as a beginnerSeptember's sampled sell-outs no longer justify telling readers that no retail option exists. What to do: Suitable for learning or teaching if the delivered price works. Confirm inventory at checkout; the research did not reserve or buy anything.

Pirates Party Vol.3 starts with a populated prohibited-leader list

Pirates Party Vol.3 runs 1 September to 31 October with Constructed, Limited Deck Battle, Four Emperors themed play and a new 2-on-2 format. The Limited Deck Battle prohibited-leader list now includes four OP17 leaders.

Why I care as a beginnerYou can bring a leader that is perfectly legal in Standard Constructed and still be turned away from a Limited Deck Battle table. Check the format your store picked before you sleeve up.

Why I care as a beginnerYou can lose access to an event without ever making a gameplay mistake. Missing an application window is the most common rookie way to miss out.

4th Anniversary Release Event runs to 13 September

The 4th Anniversary Release Event still hands out the P-110 Monkey.D.Luffy participation promo, with a distinct silver-foil, gold-stamped winner treatment, until 13 September.

Why I care as a beginnerTurning up at a local store is currently the cheapest route to this promo. Buying one on the secondary market before trying the event is the expensive path.

The Flame-Flame Fruit Coliseum in Utrecht is OP17 legal on 4 September, followed by the Utrecht Finals/Regional and the Brisbane Regional on 5 September — the first physical data points for the new set.

Why I care as a beginnerThis is the weekend where OP17 opinions stop being guesses. What happens here is what any honest tier list will be built from.

Rocks leads attention, not the meta: OP17's first numbers

Across 563 Chinoize Cup OP17 entries, Rocks.D.Xebec leads representation at 18.7%, ahead of Sabo 17.1%, Mihawk 14.9% and Kaido 11.2% — but Mihawk and black Luffy took the wins.

Why I care as a beginnerPopularity and performance are different signals. Knowing the difference stops you buying into a 'best deck' that has not actually won anything yet.

Why I care as a beginnerLaunch week prices are the worst time to buy anything expensive. This is what the unwind actually looks like in numbers, not vibes.

London Regional on 3 October, BCG Fest London Finals/LCQ registration routes on 25 October, Bristol Season 2 Regional on 21–22 November and BANDAI CARD GAMES Fest London at ExCeL on 15–17 January 2027.

Why I care as a beginnerRegionals sell out fast and beginners assume they aren't allowed to enter. You are. If you've played three local events, a Regional is a very steep but very fast way to learn.

New starter decks announced

Two new starter decks with a revised beginner rules insert and updated DON!! cards.

Why I care as a beginnerStarter decks are the cheapest correct entry point into this game. If you're waiting to start, waiting for these is reasonable — the rules insert is being rewritten, which is genuinely helpful if you're learning alone.

OP17 is here — what matters for a new player?

The set is legal, the format sped up, and two beginner-friendly reprints landed in the same box.

Why I care as a beginnerIf you bought a starter deck last month, two of your weakest cards now have cheap upgrades in this set. You do not need to buy a box — singles for a first deck upgrade cost less than a booster box.
