Ship's papers
Rather than acting as the captain, I'm the first mate learning alongside the crew
A first mate doesn't know everything, but they keep the log, watch the route and own up when the ship has gone the wrong way.
First Mate TCG is a beginner's log for the One Piece Card Game, written from London. I started playing recently, got beaten a lot, and realised that the notes I was keeping to stop repeating my own mistakes were more useful than most of what I could find online.
Everything here is written while I'm still learning rather than afterwards from a position of authority, which means you can follow the reasoning — including the parts that later turn out to be wrong — as I chart the card game one rookie lesson at a time.
What I promise
- I say when I'm guessing, and when I write 'my read' I mean an opinion rather than a fact.
- I show sample sizes, because three games are still only three games and too few for a conclusion.
- I log corrections in public instead of quietly editing them away.
- I link the source so you can check me.
- I write for someone who opened their first starter deck last week.
Where the limits are
- I'm still learning the format myself, so read this as a learner's notes rather than expert meta analysis.
- This is an unofficial site with no affiliation with Bandai or Eiichiro Oda.
- Nothing here is meant as a price guide or as investment advice.
- Being new is normal here, and nobody should feel embarrassed about it.
If I've got something wrong, please tell me — corrections are logged with a date rather than quietly deleted.
