ROOKIE LESSON
What does Counter actually mean?
Counter is the number that decides whether your hand is a resource or a shield. Usually both.

Counter is the small number in the bottom-left of most Character and Event cards: 1000, 2000, or nothing at all. During your opponent's turn, when they declare an attack, you may discard cards from your hand to add those values to the power of whatever is being attacked.
The maths that matters
- If a 6000-power attacker hits your 5000-power Leader, one 1000 Counter saves it.
- Counters are added before the comparison, and equal power means the attack succeeds.
- Event cards with a Counter icon can be played during the Counter step for stronger effects.
