5 words I wish I knew before my first One Piece TCG game
Leader, DON!!, Counter, Blocker, Life — the five words that made my first game make sense.

My first game lasted eleven minutes and I understood roughly one of them. Not because the One Piece Card Game is complicated — it genuinely isn't — but because five words were doing all the work and nobody had defined them for me.
1. Leader
Your Leader sits face-up from turn one, never leaves, and defines your colours and your deck's whole plan. It has power, it can attack, and its Life counter is the thing your opponent is trying to strip away.
2. DON!!
DON!! is your resource. You add cards from the DON!! deck each turn, spend them to play cards, or attach them to a Leader or Character to give +1000 power for the turn. That dual use is the part that took me longest.
3. Counter
The number in the bottom-left corner of a card. During your opponent's attack you can discard that card from hand to add its Counter value to the defender's power. Your hand is armour as much as it is options.
4. Blocker
A Character with the Blocker keyword can redirect one attack to itself, if it is active (not rested). One Blocker per attack.
5. Life
Life cards sit face-down. When your Leader takes damage you take the top Life card into your hand — so losing Life also gives you resources. Being at low Life is dangerous, but not the same as being behind.
